Intervention Program

Intervention

Here in Hamlin, instructional intervention is like a special kind of tutoring designed to help students who are struggling in specific subjects. It's more than just getting some extra help from the teacher. Here's how it works:

  • Targeted Approach: Teachers use assessments to pinpoint exactly where a student is having trouble, whether reading fluency, understanding math concepts, or something else.

  • Focused Instruction: Based on the identified need, the intervention provides targeted instruction. This can involve small group sessions with other students facing similar challenges or even one-on-one time with a specialist.

  • Structured Program: Instructional interventions aren't random. They follow a specific plan or program designed to address the learning gap. These programs typically last for a set period, like a few weeks or months.

  • Progress Tracking or Progress Monitoring: Regular assessments are done to see if the intervention is working. This helps teachers adjust the program if needed to ensure the student is making progress.

The overall goal of instructional intervention is to get students back on track with their grade-level peers and build their confidence as learners.

Our students get support through a pull-out program for K-5 students who need extra support on Reading Language Arts. Our teacher is trained in Structured Literacy having been trained in the following:

  • Orton Gillingham Approach
  • 95% Reading
  • Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS)

UFLI Foundations

UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institue) Foundations was created to develop and deepen teachers' knowledge and skills and to address the needs of beginning readers. The focus of this model is to support the development of foundational reading skills in children in kindergarten, first, and second grade. UFLI Foundations is an explicit and systematic program that teaches students the foundational skills necessary for proficient reading. It follows a carefully developed scope and sequence designed to ensure that students systematically acquire each skill needed and learn to apply each skill with automaticity and confidence. The program is designed to be used for core instruction in the primary grades or for intervention with struggling students in any grade.
