Thursday, 4/16 Interpret Graphic Features: Time Lines in Google Classroom

Thursday, 4/16 Interpret Graphic Features: Time Lines

Why might an author want to include a photograph of a historical event? If an author wanted to reinforce the order in which several events occurred, what might be a good way to organize that for the reader?

The time line is called “From Roads to Highways.” This tells me that the time line will show some events related to the change from roads to highways.

The first event on the time line is: “1908: Model Ts are mass produced.”

The same event described in paragraph 3.

Draw a line from the time line event to the sentence in paragraph 3.

Since this is the first event on the time line, the author might think it’s the first important event that led to roads changing to highways.

Use the example to help you complete the rest of the chart.

A chronology is a sequence of events presented in the order that they occurred. Chrono- is a word part that means time.

"The Open Road” tells the history of America’s first roads. The chronological structure will help us understand how one event led to another.

What words should we look for in this text that could signal the order of events?

The first event described in the text is the appearance of the first automobiles in the 1890s.

Underline that in the text and write it in the Events column.

In the next paragraph, they say there were few paved roads in those days. Write that down in the Details column.

Use the Example to help you complete the rest of the chart.
